When I was pregnant, like many other expecting first-time moms, I received a ton of unsolicited advice.  I was constantly fed advice on what to do during pregnancy, childbirth and as a parent–some of it useful and some not so much.  But there is one thing that NOBODY told me to prepare for…postpartum hair-loss and thinning.  Seriously, how did no one give me a heads up about this?  I remember showering a few weeks after Mason was born and I noticed a crazy amount of hair falling out and I was so freaked out!  I actually brought it up to my doctor thinking there was something seriously wrong with me and she sort of laughed it off because it was so common.  Apparently, it’s totally normal to lose an absurd amount of hair and or your hair to become noticeably thinner postpartum but nobody tells you about it until after it happens.

I lost hair every time I showered or brushed through it but I also started noticing little baby hairs at my roots.  I’m still not totally sure whether it’s breakage or regrowth but whatever it is, it’s incredibly hard to tame.  I don’t have very thick hair to begin with so my hair becoming thinner has been extremely difficult for me.  I’ve tried probably every home remedy found on Pinterest and every product on the shelves but nothing seemed to help.  I take care of my hair and don’t use any dye or bleach but I still couldn’t find a solution!  Seriously, I’m two years postpartum and I’m still dealing with the effects of thinning hair.

Luckily Aveda introduced me to a system that works for me so I’m sharing my three step process to thicker hair.  I’ve been using Aveda’s Invati™ System which has been working wonders for me.  The three-step system is easy to use and my hair was immediately thicker and stronger.  It includes an Exfoliating Shampoo, Thickening Intensive Conditioner and a Scalp Revitalizer.  The shampoo cleanses and exfoliates your scalp, getting rid of product buildup that can clog your pores.  Invati™ Exfoliating Shampoo also contains a blend of Ayurvedic herbs, including ginseng and certified organic turmeric that helps invigorate your scalp with massage.  I typically shower in the morning so I love starting my day by massaging the shampoo into my hair during the shower to energize my scalp.  After shampooing, I follow with Invati Thickening Intensive Conditioner.

The conditioner contains shea butter to help nourish and condition your hair while soy proteins and naturally derived amino acids mimic hair’s building blocks to also thicken hair from within and restore strength. The daily conditioner is perfect for those experiencing thinning hair or loss of fullness (ME!).  After washing with Invati Exfoliating Shampoo, I massage Invati Thickening Intensive Conditioner into my hair and rinse.

The last step of the system is my favorite—Invati™ Scalp Revitalizer.  The revitalizer’s key ingredients consist of a blend of Ayurvedic herbs including ginseng and certified organic turmeric which help energize the scalp when massaged in, as well Vitamin E.  After using Invati™ Exfoliating Shampoo and Thickening Intensive Conditioner, I towel dry my hair then spray the scalp revitalizer 8 times on each side of my head (16 times total) to cover my scalp evenly.  I massage it into my scalp to increase microcirculation, which is probably my favorite part 😉 , then style my hair normally.  The Scalp Revitalizer should be used twice daily so I always keep a travel size in my purse to use later in the day or after exercising.

Battling postpartum hair Loss, thin hair, postpartum hair loss remedies, how to deal with postpartum hair loss, how to get thick hair, how to reverse postpartum Hairloss, Thick healthy hair,

After going through postpartum hair loss, thinning and breakage, I sort of came to terms with the fact that I’d never have thick, full hair but was (thankfully) proven wrong.  My hair actually feels thicker than it did before having a baby and I constantly receive compliments on how strong and full my hair looks.  As much as I’d love to say that appearance doesn’t matter to me, my hair looking thin took a huge toll on my confidence.  As women, we deserve to feel our best and Invati™ is helping me do that.  I’m on my way to gain my confidence back and I’m not hiding my hair anymore.  As a mother, I want my children to be confident in their own skin and I couldn’t encourage that if I didn’t feel comfortable and proud myself.

So the moral of the story–if you’re expecting your first baby or plan to have a baby in the future, don’t be alarmed if and when your hair starts to thin or you lose hair.  It’s totally normal and there is hope for you.  And if you already have babies and you suffered through postpartum hair thinning, there’s hope for you too.  Aveda’s Invati™ Solutions for Thinning Hair is a system of products that I highly encourage anyone with thin or breaking hair to invest in.  It’s a system that’s completely doable for a busy mom and will make your hair feel better and look luscious! Head to Aveda’s website to learn more about the Invati™ System to achieve thicker and fuller hair!
