In true second child fashion 😉 , Liam will not have his own nursery right away. We currently rent a 2 bedroom apartment which has been more than enough space for us but as our family grows, we’ve started to outgrow our apartment. We’re most likely planning to move to a larger space shortly after Liam is born (and by that time he wouldn’t even be in his own room just yet anyways) so the poor kiddo is not getting his own nursery right now! The only downfall to this is that babies have A LOT of stuff! And since our space is on the smaller side, we had to figure out how in the world we were going to prepare our small living space for a new addition.
Luckily, Mason has two decent sized closets in his room so for the time being, Liam’s things will takeover one of those closets. The closet that will be Liam’s was stuffed full of baby things that Mason had outgrown–everything from storage bins full of clothes to his newborn car seat to baby swings, and so much more. I don’t really know how I managed to fit everything in that closet and it was like playing Jenga every time I opened the door. As I started to make plans for baby #2’s closet, I had absolutely no idea what I’d do with everything currently stored in that closet. There was absolutely nowhere in our apartment to put it so we decided on getting a storage unit to house all the extra baby gear.
We partnered with Guardian Storage because of how modern and clean their facilities are. Cleanliness was a HUGE factor for me since the majority of the items going into storage will be used by our baby. We have a unit at their Monroeville Rt 22 facility which is practically brand new! Along with your unit, you also get access to a free moving truck to help with your move-in, free Wi-Fi (as well as access to a conference room), covered loading docks, moving carts, and even package delivery acceptance! I can have items I order online for the baby sent directly to the storage unit rather than adding extra clutter to my home. How awesome is that?!
I also love how secure the facility is. You must enter your passcode to access the gated facility, they have 24 hour surveillance, and each unit is individually alarmed. Funny story- I actually set the alarm off on accident by opening my unit without punching in my passcode… I was totally embarrassed but also really thankful to know that absolutely no one can enter my unit without both my passcode and my key!
I can access my unit 365 days a year which is great to run things back and forth as the baby grows out of them! I’ve already visited the facility a ton of times and the staff is always so helpful, friendly, and greets me by name. I definitely feel extremely welcome and safe when I’m there! You can find your local Guardian Storage facility here as well as find a size option to fit your needs.
Our storage unit clearly needs a little bit of organization help but at least the clutter is out of my home! I’m a little embarrassed to say that Liam’s closet is probably the cleanest part of my home right now but with my nesting in full force, the rest of the closets will (hopefully) look like this soon.
When you occupy in a smaller living space, utilizing closets is so important! Make sure to maximize the space you have by clearing out all unnecessary clutter, investing in a shelving unit that fits your space, and grabbing some storage baskets/bins to hide loose belongings.

As you can tell, we had SO MUCH CLUTTER in his closet! That’s all hanging out at Guardian Storage for now while his new and improved closet is clutter-free.
